About our platform

Boosting Support for Sudan's Food Security and Farming

SPAFS focuses on strengthening support for Sudanese smallholder farmers by addressing food crises and the needs of various food commodities, especially during wartime.

We aim to mitigate the effects of disruptions in the food processing system on Sudan's food supply.

The Urgency of Our Mission

Recent analysis from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) reveals that over six million people in Sudan, approximately 13% of the population, are on the brink of famine. Over 20 million people across the country face acute food insecurity due to conflicts, economic decline, and mass displacement.

In Sudan, agriculture is a lifeline. As the main agricultural season commences, urgent action is required to prevent further deterioration of the food security situation and to save lives and livelihoods. This crucial work cannot be sustained without timely resources.

Our Projects

  • SPFAFS TEAM in Minwashi

    Helping Small Farmers

The Sudan Platform for Agriculture and Food Security (SPAFS) has played a pivotal role in advancing agricultural development in Al-Managil. By providing farmers with access to modern farming techniques, quality seeds, and training programs, SPAFS has significantly increased crop yields and food production in the region. Their efforts in promoting sustainable agricultural practices have also helped conserve the local environment while boosting economic stability for farming communities. Additionally, SPAFS facilitates market access and strengthens supply chains, ensuring that farmers in Al-Managil can effectively sell their produce and improve their livelihoods.

  • Milk Products Workshops for IDPs

The Sudan Platform for Agriculture and Food Security (SPAFS) recently conducted three impactful workshops in Wad Madani aimed at supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) families. These workshops focused on enhancing agricultural skills, food security practices, and sustainable livelihood strategies tailored to the unique challenges faced by IDPs. By equipping participants with practical knowledge and tools, SPAFS is fostering resilience and self-reliance among vulnerable communities, ultimately contributing to improved food availability and economic stability in the region.

  • New Halfa Vegetable Production for IDPs

The Sudan Platform for Agriculture and Food Security (SPAFS) actively supports internally displaced persons (IDPs) in New Halfa by facilitating vegetable production initiatives aimed at strengthening food security for displaced families. Through the provision of seeds, tools, and technical training, SPAFS empowers IDPs to cultivate nutrient-rich vegetables on small plots of land, enhancing their access to fresh produce and improving their overall nutrition. This initiative not only promotes self-sufficiency among displaced households but also contributes to the stabilization of local food systems, ensuring that vulnerable families receive a sustainable supply of essential vegetables despite their challenging circumstances.
